Reaching the final floor of the third act in Slay the Spire is a monumental achievement, but it also places you face-to-face with one of three run-defining encounters. Each boss presents a unique mechanical puzzle that heavily punishes specific deck archetypes if you are unprepared. Understanding their attack patterns and scaling conditions before climbing the spire is essential for securing a victory.

Halting the Clock Against Time Eater

The Time Eater is infamous for punishing decks that rely on playing a massive quantity of low-impact cards in a single turn. Its passive ability forces your turn to end immediately after twelve cards are played, while giving the boss a permanent strength boost. To counter this mechanic, players must prioritize high-value cards that maximize energy efficiency without triggering the counter prematurely.

Controlling the exact cadence of your plays allows you to choose when the turn ends, preventing the boss from disrupting your defensive setups. Decks focused on heavy individual attacks or passive scaling tend to perform exceptionally well here. Carefully counting your cards ensures you retain control of the combat flow throughout the entire engagement.

Weathering the Storm of the Awakened One

The Awakened One initially appears alongside two cultists and possesses a dangerous passive ability called Curiosity, which grants it strength whenever you play a Power card. This mechanic forces players to hold back their setup engines until the optimal moment arrives. Eliminating the supporting cultists early reduces incoming damage and allows you to focus purely on managing the boss.

Once you deplete its first health bar, the monster enters a second phase, purging all its debuffs and gaining new, multi-hit attacks. Crucially, the boss loses its Curiosity passive during this second phase, meaning you can safely play all your remaining Power cards. Saving your scaling resources for this final stretch makes surviving the aggressive assault much more manageable.

Dismantling the Synergy of Donu and Deca

Donu and Deca represent a dual-threat encounter that scales systematically every turn through predictable teamwork. One artifact focuses on granting permanent strength to both shapes, while the other shields the duo with block and inflicts dazed status cards into your draw pile. Failing to break through their defenses quickly can result in overwhelming damage within just a few turn cycles.

The optimal strategy involves focusing all of your offensive output on a single target, preferably Donu, to stop their strength scaling as fast as possible. Once one half of the duo falls, the remaining boss poses a significantly lower threat to your health pool. Bringing strong area-of-effect damage or focused single-target burst cards will turn this geometric nightmare into a victory.
